Malcolm Geffen serves as a University of La Verne SBDC business consultant where he assists local entrepreneurs to start and grow their small business. Malcolm has an established career as an entrepreneur with a strong background in professional management and corporate turnaround work. As an entrepreneur he has founded, acquired and operated a number of companies where he was an owner or a stockholder. He has also operated a number of companies on behalf of investors or stockholders to either turn these companies around or improve underperforming company performance.

In the management field Malcolm founded and ran both M C Geffen and Associates and Venture Management. The former company was advisory while the latter ran companies for investors / stockholders. The industries where he has been involved in turn around or profit improvement programs include consumer goods manufacturing and retailing, consumer goods distribution, clothing manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, carpet manufacturing, photographic product distribution, and agricultural equipment manufacturing and distribution.

As an entrepreneur he established and grew a fast food chain, acquired and grew a specialty tax forms company, founded a specialty publishing company, and established an internet based niche label manufacturing company. He acquired a paper converting company which he spent some years growing into a significant manufacturing and distribution company in the paper converting industry.

Malcolm has been the recipient of a number of awards. The most notable of these was an Alfred P Sloan Fellowship at MIT (youngest recipient ever), Businessman of the Year Nominee, and International Exchange Award recipient. In his early business career he was trained by GE and subsequently by McKinsey and Company

In addition to working as a consultant at the University of La Verne SBDC, Malcolm is a Managing Director M C Geffen and Associates, a voluntary mentor through the Orange County Chapter of SCORE, the leader of the SCORE CEO Forum, a director of some privately held companies, A Managing Partner at Stevens Yacht Services, and a member of Tech Coast Angels Orange County Chapter. He is a volunteer at South Coast Repertory Theater, and serves on the membership committee of the Balboa Yacht Club.

His education includes a Bachelors of Commerce from the University of Cape Town, a post graduate diploma in International Marketing from the I.M.I at Harvard Graduate School of Business and an S.M. in Industrial Management from M.I.T.
